Dr. Zhe He is a tenured Associate Professor at Florida State University School of Information (iSchool). He also holds courtesy appointments with the College of Medicine and the Department of Computer Science at FSU. He serves as the Team Lead of the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) Program and as the Informatics Lead for the UF-FSU Clinical and Translational Science Award. His research focuses on the intersection of biomedical and health informatics, clinical research informatics, machine learning, natural language processing, knowledge representation, and big data analytics. At FSU iSchool, he directs the eHealth Lab. His research aims to improve population health and advance biomedical research through collecting, analyzing, and applying electronic health data from heterogeneous sources. As Principal Investigator, Dr. He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, Eli Lilly and Company, Amazon, NVIDIA, FSU Council on Research and Creativity, and the Institute for Successful Longevity. He has secured over $4 million in research grants. One of his NIH-funded projects focuses on improving the generalizability of clinical trials through novel informatics methods and real-world data from electronic health records. Dr. He is also developing innovative methods to enhance the interpretability of deep learning models for health outcome prediction. Dr. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2014, an MS in Computer Science from Columbia University in 2009, and a BS in Computer Science from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2007. Prior to joining FSU, he was a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. He has published over 80 papers in leading biomedical informatics journals, such as JAMIA, JBI, and JMIR. He has received prestigious recognitions, including two Distinguished Paper Awards from the AMIA Annual Symposium in 2015 and 2017. He is currently an Associate Editor for BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making. Dr. He received early promotion to Associate Professor with tenure in 2020.
