Jun Yeong Byun PhD, MSN, RN
Jun Yeong Byun, PhD, MSN, RN, is a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Byun is a nurse scientist whose research focuses on improving respiratory and mental health outcomes among people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and HIV. Her research interests include resilience, mental health, symptom management, health-related quality of life, aging, stigma, and the development of behavioral interventions for people living with multiple chronic conditions. She is the recipient of a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for research focused on adapting and evaluating a resilience-enhancing intervention to improve COPD-related outcomes among people living with both COPD and HIV.
Dr. Byun has a clinical background in critical care nursing in South Korea and received her Master of Science in Nursing from Korea University in 2020. She earned her PhD from UAB in 2023 and is currently a postdoctoral fellow with the UAB site of the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study/Women’s Interagency HIV Study Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS). She is a fellow in the Sustained Training in Aging and HIV Research (STAHR) program, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, and a scholar in the Health Excellence Research Education Program (HEREP), funded by the National Institute on Aging. She serves as Web Director for the Nursing Assembly of the American Thoracic Society.
