Joy S. Scarlett, MSN, RN, is a Ph.D. student in the College of Nursing. A native of Daytona Beach, Florida, she earned both her BSN and MSN from Florida A&M University.

Her research examines how social determinants of health, structural barriers, and culturally responsive approaches influence behavioral healthcare access and caregiving experiences among underserved populations. Through her work, she aims to develop evidence-based strategies that improve support for caregivers and reduce mental health disparities in vulnerable communities.

In addition to her research, Joy is committed to mentorship, community engagement, and advancing the nursing profession through scholarship, leadership, and service. She plans to pursue a career as a nurse scientist and educator, conducting community-engaged research that informs policy, improves health outcomes, and promotes health opportunities.
